I had to privilege to work alongside Natan Fourie on the GFX side of this film. The 94-minute documentary uses more than 70 hours of rare, unreleased audio recordings of Nelson Mandela. The film aims to present an honest and accurate portrayal of Mandela, exploring the experiences, values, and moments that shaped him into a global symbol of justice, hope, and human dignity. After premiering at Sundance in 2025, the film has gotten stellar reviews, including a Letterboxd review mentioning how the user ‘love the painted flashbacks. The animation is striking‘.
Working alongside Thabang Lehobye was also an honour. His painted artworks exposed me a different visual language that I have no encountered yet. More than a historical account, the film highlights the impact of courage, resilience, and collective action in shaping South Africa's journey to democracy.
